If your children enjoy nature or being active, there’s plenty to do. Head out for a day trip or an overnight adventure to Repovesi National Park, explore hiking trails and beautiful lean-to shelters, or spend an active holiday at the Kisala sports hall. Or perhaps your children are interested in history or art? The Bunker Museum and the Teerniemi trenches spark the imagination, and Mäntyharju is also home to the renowned Art Centre Salmela. We also have the region’s only Forest Playground – and quite possibly the steepest and fastest Wuuuf sledding hill in Southern Savonia.
Young people in Mäntyharju value not only the natural attractions but also the versatile sports area, which includes both the Forest Playground and the Kisala sports facilities.
The Forest Playground features climbing structures, a zipline, a small mountain biking track, a fire pit, and a sledding hill.
At Kisala, you can play pickleball or rent courts and indoor spaces for your own use. Tennis and padel courts are located right next to the sports area.
In summer, you can play football, tennis, or Finnish baseball. In winter, there are opportunities for ice skating on both artificial ice and outdoor rinks. The area is surrounded by an extensive cross-country ski network, with the shortest loop being 6 kilometres. Outside the ski season, award-winning hiking and mountain biking routes lead from Kisala all the way to Repovesi National Park.
If skateboarding interests you, there is a skate park next to Mäntyharju comprehensive school, open outside school hours – in the evenings, on weekends, and during holidays.
Staying at Unelma makes travelling with children easier. The apartment has a spacious, well-equipped kitchen where cooking is simple and convenient. For children, there’s plenty to do – games, drawing supplies, Netflix, and WiFi – so you can also enjoy familiar routines and favourite shows on the large TV in the living room. Grandmother’s garden offers space to run around, play, and let off some steam in between.
Unelma has two bedrooms, a spacious kitchen, and a bathroom with shower and toilet. A summer room provides additional space during the warmer seasons. There are individual beds for up to seven guests, as well as a wooden baby cot and a sofa bed.
Good to know: Drawers do not have child locks. Access to the staircase can only be restricted by closing the apartment doors, which cannot be locked. Only the downstairs doors are lockable.
Grandmother’s garden: The shared yard includes berries and dye plants that may stain clothing, as well as a treehouse. The treehouse can be used at your own risk, and children must not be left there unattended, as there is always a risk of falling.
When using the outdoor grill, children must be supervised at all times. Open fire always involves risks.
The house pets (two cats and one dog) are used to visitors, but the cat may react if handled roughly (for example, if its tail is pulled). Guests’ pets are also welcome.
